Lone Star Chapter

President’s Message

Dear Lone Star HFMA Members,

Congratulations to Tim Nese on leading our chapter to an unprecedented level of success. His energy and enthusiasm instilled new growth to our chapter creating engagement of new volunteers to our committees and board. We had exceptional in-person educational events, thriving bi-monthly webinars, a gregarious mentoring program and amazing monthly networking events that touched all areas of the DFW Metroplex area. Last but not least, our membership knocked it out of the park with a 14% growth to 2,585 members.  Tim, we thank you for your dedication and leadership to the chapter. Excelente Amigo!

While we may not be in the role of patient care as a clinician, what we do each day impacts someone’s life. If there’s one thing all healthcare people have in common, it’s a great desire to be useful and helpful, including us finance folks! That’s what makes healthcare so special.

I am extremely excited for this incoming year, welcoming back our current members and greeting the new ones as we prepare to embark on the next chapter in the Lone Star book. My chosen theme for this year’s journey is “Expanding our Footprint”. My goal is to touch outside our Lone Star parameters to share our success of educational events, mentoring and leading, with overall compassion for others.

To achieve the goal of “Expanding our Footprint”, my vision is to continue the success of being that trusted partner and committed resource, while launching new ways to grow our chapter.  Here is our plan:

  • We will partner with our friends to the north with a comeback after a 4-year hiatus of the Red River Showdown in the fall. HFMA Oklahoma and Lone Star have joined forces again to lead a successful educational event.
  • Our success of the bi-monthly webinar series will be showcased nationally for an unlimited capacity to those seeking CPE credits. Many of our smaller sister chapters do not have the resources their membership needs to meet educational license requirements. Their members must seek opportunities elsewhere and we want to be that resource.
  • We will continue to grow our relationships with our partnerships in other trade groups such as HIMSS, MGMA, ACHE, THAC, NTAHQ, AHIOS, NAHSE and others. Collaborating will only make us stronger in the desire to explore new ideas and conquer the challenges we face in the ever-changing healthcare environment.
  • Our hospital provider relationships along with our business partners are very strong, but we want to increase awareness of our programs and resources in the Physician, Clinic and Commercial Payor spaces. This will encourage innovation to drive positive changes in healthcare policy, payment, delivery, and quality.
  • The success of our mentoring program has put us on the map and we want to continue the growth of our future healthcare leaders by creating a structured scholarship and internship program. By continuing our partnerships with UTA, UTD and TCU, we will expand into other academic locations reaching out to as many mentees as possible so that we remain a top tier organization of leadership resources.

My passion for helping others, whether it be for the unfortunate or those that are in need, is to help at a local level. With that, the Charity of Choice for the year is SafeHaven of Tarrant County who is the only state designated family violence center in Tarrant County. Their mission is to end domestic violence by providing freedom for survivors, keeping victims safe and to hold offenders accountable.

Little did I know that 14 years ago when I joined HFMA, that the people in this organization would become not just my friends, but my family. I thank those around me who have supported me through the years and continue to be an influence.  I invite you to join me in this exciting journey of leading HFMA Lone Star into the future. Together we can make a difference and impact those around us.

Thank you for trusting me to lead the Lone Star Chapter in 2023 – 2024. Best Regards,

Tammy R. Walsh, FHFMA, CRCR
